How I DOUBLED My Tips Changing One Little Thing!

Mobile Bartenders really do have it great! We can make a lot of CASH quickly and easily while having a great time! I consistently walk away with $3-500 every single event PLUS I get paid out by all my other staff members and bartenders which can be an additional $2-300 as well. But last weekend I stumbled on something that may have just changed the game for all of us!
It is a simple little shift I made, but it nearly DOUBLED my average income for 5 hours of bartending! And the best part is…I didn’t have to work any harder, longer, or faster.
Now, before I reveal this eye-opening revalation to you, I must warn you that it isn’t something you can’t always use week after week. You have to simply wait for the stars to align! But when they do, it’s like hitting the jackpot in Vegas baby!
So, are you ready to hear how I made $762 in CASH in 5 hours last week?
The ANSWER: A Cash Bar!
I did NOT provide the liquor, I simply showed up and collected money for the drinks at the host’s request. Times are tough, and he wanted to make a little money back on the liquor so I was more than happy to collect money from guests.
So here is what happened:
1. When guests think “FREE,” they are less likely to tip, BUT when they see a $4.00 Cadillac Margarita, they think “What a deal!” and they tip…BIG!!
2. At the end of the night, the host has just made a good PROFIT off of his booze! So now he is drunk and happy! (Good combo!) When he comes to pay you at the end of the night, he is going to pay well!
In my situation, no one minded paying $2-4.00 for drinks. They knew the host was just trying to keep the costs down for their wedding. People also tipped very, VERY well because they were already exchanging money with me. I made over $350 in tips for those five hours.
And at the end of the night, I showed the host a shoe box FULL of cash and a bill for $200.00. He paid me the $200 in cash straight from the box, then found two more hundreds in there and handed them to me as a tip. Grand Total: $762.00.
So how do you do this yourself? Easy…
When a client calls to book your services, test the waters to see if they sound like their budget may be too small for their party. Questions like, “Well, how much is all this liquor going to cost me?” are BIG indicators that you need to offer a cash bar. So here is what you say:
“You know what Nancy? One option that a lot of my clients take me up on, especially right now with economy the way it is, is to do a cash bar. We simply create a little menu telling people beer/wine is $2.00 and everything else is $4.00 and at the end of the night you’ve made your money back.”
Do NOT push it on them, just throw it out as a suggestion. Like I said earlier, this isn’t something you can do every weekend, but every once and awhile…and it will WORK!
So go out there and try it! And let me know the results!
